Synopsis

MARK (Daniel Wu) urgently hails a cab for JESSICA (Yao Chen) and places her out of harm's way. Moments later hoodlums led by TONY chase him down, apprehend him and haul him before their gang leader, DEVIL (Leon Dai), into an ominous room where they beat him and demand the money Mark, an insurance salesman, stole from them. Unflinching, Mark insists he will only talk to the boss, TIGER (Simon Yam), who finally arrives. Mark claims he's been forced to steal from Tiger by a man far more dangerous than they. FLASHBACK to the recent past as devoted son, Mark, makes the difficult decision to withhold evidence in court for his employer when told to do so, in order to earn a financial reward to move his aging mother, JEN (Kara Hui), in to a nicer retirement home. His action sets off a chain of events starting with a threatening call from a blackmailer, THE VOICE, who informs Mark it had emptied his bank account but would replenish it so long as Mark follows his instructions to the letter. The Voice then orders Mark to rob a bank where he must enlist the assistance of Jessica, Mark’s childhood sweetheart, by coercing her. Jessica hasn’t seen Mark since she abruptly broke up with him and is furious at the trouble Mark has brought to her. But she has no choice but to go along. They manage to steal over three million in cash. Mark continues to be forced to do Voice's bidding, including raiding a group of drug dealers. When Mark completes his "mission" and tries to ambush The Voice, it outmaneuvers him and makes off with the goods and cash. Later, Mark finds his own money returned to his bank account. Not long afterwards, a furious Jessica has an explosive confrontation with Mark at his apartment and rages over the fact that he endangered her son - his son. Stunned that he has a son, Mark slowly repairs his bonds with Jessica and the three begin to enjoy a long overdue family life. Things are good when Mark receives a call one day. It's The Voice again. Mark vows to shake loose The Voice once and for all. This time, The Voice sends him to sell weapons to Tiger Imports where the deal goes awry and Mark narrowly escapes after a frantic car chase, only to be captured by Devil's hoodlums later, as seen at the start of the film. Back in the room where Mark is kept, twists after twists gradually reveal the truth. Tiger and Devil discover the identity of The Voice but the price to pay for learning such truths pushes all the characters to the edge of their beings. Combining action and suspense Control promises not only a gripping story, but also intriguing and engaging characters, plentiful plot twists and an unforgettable ending.
