"Hong Kong, 3 April, 2008 ¨C Celestial Pictures has entered into an agreement with Kadokawa Entertainment Inc. (Kadokawa Entertainment) to launch a new range of entertainment content from the Celestial¡¯s Shaw Brothers Library in Japan. The new content will include video, Pay TV, Free TV, VOD, and mobile distribution rights.
Kadokawa Entertainment will offer different genres of movies from the Celestial¡¯s Shaw Brothers Film Library; namely, horror, fantasies, action and martial arts films. The Treasure Hunters, Boxers Omen and Chinatown Kid are just a few of the renowned films that will be available in Japan.
¡°We are honored to co-present these amazing Shaw Brothers masterpieces with Kadokawa Entertainment, a leading comprehensive media enterprise in Japan,¡± said Terry Mak, Executive Vice President, Distribution & TV Networks of Celestial Pictures. ¡°The alliance will bring the most entertaining Shaw Brothers films ever made to a new generation of audience in Japan. For the first time, Kung-fu enthusiasts in Japan will also have access to never-been-released films from some of the world¡¯s finest martial arts directors such as Chang Cheh, Kuei Chih-hung and Liu Chia-yung.¡±
Celestial¡¯s Shaw Brothers Film Library consists of 760 films produced from the 1950s to the 1990s. Since 2002, Celestial Pictures has been making these re-mastered gems of Chinese cinema available to audiences around the world via cinemas, home video, television, and new media markets.
