Born in Indonesia to parents from Guangdong, Lo Lieh moved to Hong Kong when he was a teenager. He began his martial arts training in 1962 and joined the Shaw Brothers that same year.

He established himself with his rugged good looks and his powerful martial art skills first seen in The Invincible Fist (1969), followed by King Boxer (1972) which was a phenomenal success across North America and Europe, making him no less a name than Bruce Lee.

He filmed more than 70 movies with the Studio including Golden Swallow (1968), Dragon Swamp (1969), The Singing Thief (1969)and many more. Lo left Shaw Brothers for Taiwan in the early 80's. He returned to Hong Kong in the late 80's and joined television station ATV, playing supporting roles and gradually fading out of the film industry.

He passed away in Shenzhen in November 2002 at the age of 62.
